Herb Guild Spring! Heritage Day this Saturday
Hello Everybody! The herb guild has been very busy this spring. We have just installed the first phase of our new herb signs in the Michie house garden at the Heritage Farm. Please check out this new addition. These signs not only describe what the plant is but offers a QR code for smart phone access to provide more information and allows updates. We are very excited by this new communication method.
Also the third annual Heritage Day is this Saturday, April 30th 10-4. Please join us. We will have a table there discussing the herb guild as well as selling flavored herbal salts. The guild really enjoyed making these salts and decided to make some for the public. A real deal at 2 for a $1.00. We have rosemary, lime, lemon, pepper available! Please come out and visit us at Heritage Day this Saturday at the Louisa County Historical Society. Great artisans will be demonstrating their crafts and plenty of fun for kids and adults.
The guild will also be showing how to work flax into a thread which could be made into linen--a new learning experience for us and we hope the public enjoys it.
Welcome new members too from the great gardening sessions conducted by the Master Gardeners of Central Va. The first session- an herb session conducted by our own herb "consultant" Krista Rahm of Forrest Green Farms was very well attended and many folks expressed interest in the Louisa Herb Guild and her farm and educational sessions.
Hope to see you soon, Deb

SALT - Flavored salt meeting
FLAVORED SALT!
Members of the guild met recently and had a program devoted to salt--the only rock we eat! Attendees flavored salt with lemon zest and fresh rosemary. We used fine sea salt and baked it (low oven 200) for 20 minutes and each took home some to try! As you can see by the pictures it wasn't all work in the "salt mine" we had treats that were delicious.

Vinegar Workshop August 20th
Vinegar Workshop and Flavored Butter!
A fun and creative group joined together and made flavored vinegars on August 20th. This was our Second Annual Vinegar Workshop! It keeps getting better just like the vinegars! Attendees selected from herbs and other flavors to make an assortment of "gourmet" looking and tasting bottles of all sorts of herbal vinegars. We also flavored butters with herbs and even peppers with garlic and immediately enjoyed with french bread! Lemon balm and lemon herbal tea was also served. To top it off Dody brought fresh stuffed stawberries that tasted like strawberry cheesecake which were a hit! Also welcome new members and we hope you join us again. Members are simply added to our email list and you are welcome to join us at anytime for any function. Our next meeting is this Thursday Sept 3rd at 10-12 and we will be discussing fall planting in our herb garden and working a bit in the garden!

Pics from Last Saturday at Celebrate Louisa! Trecia, owner of the Whistle Stop Bed and Breakfast and member of the guild, provided us with the most beautiful spot to set up. We had fun talking with each other and the public about herbs and the guild! A few more folks signed up for the guild email. Thanks Dody, Trecia, Lana, Pat, Tina and Trecia's friend and daughter for helping! I enjoyed it too ; ) Deb
